Good Digital Games and Puzzles for Calculus:
- Waker: A multi-level game to teach students about position and velocity curves by navigating a character to create position and velocity curves.
Paper-based Games, Puzzles, and Manipulatives for Calculus:
- Chain Product Quotient: Manipulative/Puzzle activity that can be used for sorting which expressions use which rules.
- Multiple Derivatives: Puzzle to construct chains of derivatives, sometimes ending in the same expression.
- Power Rule Format: Puzzle to review simplification of expressions involving exponents, in preparation for learning about the derivative power rule.
- Pieces of Eight: Puzzle for introducing the various notations that can be used to describe sequences, and to categorize these sequences into groups. It’s harder than it looks. (by Gary Nonnemacher)
- Antiderivative Block: Game to practice finding derivatives and antiderivatives. Game can be played either side up (also print Gameboard andDirections & Player Cards, also see blog post about Antiderivative Block or video about game play)
- GAME: Road to U-Substitution Game to help students to see the layers in integration by u-substitution (you’ll want to play this one yourself first to make sure you understand it)
I’ve also decided to collect your suggestions for other digital and/or paper games, puzzles, and manipulatives using a Google Form, but before you submit a game for me to review, PLEASE check it against my criteria for Lame Games.
